Blog traffic for beginners

If I had to start over from scratch and grow a blog from 0 to 100,000 views per month, there are two ways I could do it.

One way is easier and faster, but it’s also much more expensive. The other way is longer and harder, but it’s probably more rewarding and enduring.

This article is about the fastest way to grow a blog to 100,000 views (from scratch).

The Easy & Expensive Way to 100,000 Views

If you throw enough money at your blog, you can get to 100,000 views very fast. But it’s going to be expensive.

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll spend money on:

• Domain name
• Hosting
• Theme (optional)
• Logo
• Setting up your website
• Creating social media profiles
• Creating content
• Editing content
• Optimizing content
• Publishing content
• Traffic
• Backlinks

The most expensive parts of this plan are the content, traffic, and backlinks.

Honestly, if you’re going to buy traffic, you can just buy 100,000 page views per month. That’s by far the easiest and quickest way to get there.

However, let’s assume that you don’t want to pay for traffic.

What should you do?

I’d take the following steps.

Pay Someone To Set Up the Website

If you have the money, you might as well pay for someone knowledgeable to set up your website.

Setting up your website includes:

• Choosing the name for your site (domain name). I’d go with a broad domain name that gives you room to grow your site into multiple related “sub-niches” within your niche.
• Setting up hosting. There are many good hosting companies. If you have the money, you should probably get the best hosting possible to be able to handle 100,000 pageviews.
• Building out the site. Whoever you pay should build your website with WordPress and choose a light theme (I use the free WordPress theme, Astra). The website should be fast-loading with a simple but professional design. The site should include all the required pages (privacy, affiliate disclaimer, about us, cookies, etc).

You can get this done in less than one day.

Pay a Team of Writers To Generate Content

Next, you want to hire a team of writers.

Personally, I’d hire 50 writers to each create 20 articles on low competition (or no competition) topics. I’m talking about a keyword difficulty of “0”.

The writers should be experts in your niche.

I’d make sure the articles are between 1,000 and 2,000+ words in length, highly relevant to the search intent of the keyword, formatted with subheadings, and include lots of helpful information.

For the best results, I’d batch content into as few topical categories as possible (i.e., write as many articles as possible about the same topic from different angles). This is also called “silo content.”

Each article would come with at least one image and probably one relevant video.

All of the articles would be edited, SEO-optimized, and properly interlinked. SEO stands for search engine optimization.

By the end of the first month, you’d have 1,000 articles published on topics easy to rank for on Google.

Pay for Backlinks

The last step is to get a bunch of backlinks from high-authority websites. There are super expensive backlink building companies who will handle this for you.

Backlinks help you reach 100,000 page views because they tell Google your website is authoritative and deserves to rank for the keywords you’re targeting.

You don’t absolutely need backlinks, but why not throw some money at it anyway. It will certainly speed up indexing and ranking.

At that point, all you do is wait for Google to work its algorithmic magic.

The Hard & Longer Path to 100,000 Views

Ok, but what if you are a regular person with little to no money?

The good news is that I’m in this boat, so I know this process very well.

The big difference between this path and the more expensive path is a matter of time and hard work. You’ll also need to learn a few skills (building websites, creating rankable content, SEO, etc).

Therefore, this path is essentially the same as the pricey path — you just do all the work yourself.

Build Your 100,000 Page View Platform

First, you choose your niche, do keyword research, and build your website.

I’d choose a niche focused on middle to upper-class West African audiences. Preferably on a topic that you know very well.

Doing so will make your keyword (or topic) research and article writing so much easier.

I recommend a low-cost hosting plan, WordPress, and a free theme (such as Astra). It will probably take a while for you to figure out how to set all of this up. The shortcut is to hire someone for this part or to take a good blogging course (not an affiliate link).

Write Traffic-Magnets

Third, you create quality content as fast as possible.

In my experience, you’ll get better and faster at writing good articles with lots of practice.

For example, when I first started blogging, it took me a day or more to finish a single blog post. Now I regularly write two per day. Start at your own pace, but optimize for speed.

Shoot to get to 2–3 articles per day as soon as possible.

Since I just launched a new website, I’ll use myself as an example. I’ve put up 20–30 articles per month in the first two months (for a total of 47 articles so far). I plan on topping out at around 60 blog posts for this website at the end of this month.

I’ll keep creating content for this website until I get to 100-200 articles. Hint: Using an AI writer really helps.

My favorite is Jarvis (not an affiliate link).

If I average around 500 page views per article (which I do across my portfolio of sites), then I will get 100,000 page views per month from 200 articles.

Obviously, the more quality articles you can turn out, the faster you’ll reach 100,000 page views per month.

At my current rate with my new website, I should get there within the next two years.

Personally, I don’t focus much on backlinks, except to respond to HARO (Help A Reporter Out) queries one or two times per week. I’d rather focus on keyword research and publishing content.

How Fast Can You Grow a Blog to 100,000 Page Views per Month?

How much time is all of this going to take?

I can confidently say that it’s going to take up to a year from the day you start your website.

I’ve never really seen it happen any faster because it often takes time for Google to index and rank your articles in search results.

Once your articles start ranking in search, you’ll start getting monthly traffic.

You can start getting traffic within a few months of launching your site, but it often takes anywhere between 6 and 12 months for all of your articles to attract as much monthly traffic as possible.

Bloggers talk about months of no traffic, followed by a steep “hockey stick” growth spurt somewhere around months 8–12.

You can speed up this process by doing the following:

• Writing in a non-competitive niche
• Writing on low or no competition keywords

Obviously, if you pay for traffic, you can get 100,000 page views within the first month or two.

Again, that’s going to cost you a lot of money, and you’ll have to continue pumping money into that method each month to see similar results long-term.

I much prefer organic traffic that comes naturally from ranking articles high in Google search results.

The organic traffic process is basically free — it simply takes a longer amount of time.

Final Thoughts

Why do 100,000 page views even matter? I suppose it’s a sign of success in blogging.

My websites gets half that amount, and I’m currently making around $1,000 per month from that site alone.

You can make a lot of money with fewer page views if your site is properly monetized.

Based on my current earnings and experience, I would expect to make $2,000 plus each month from 100,000 page views from ad display earnings alone. You could make much more with affiliate income or by selling your own informational products.
