Most people don’t have the confidence to be themselves.
They feel the need to put on a mask and hide their real identity behind a more socially acceptable persona. This is a mistake. A successful person is someone who can transform their character into a brand, while still being true to who they are. People will remember you if you stand out from the crowd, not because you are pretending to be someone else.
1. Having Confident Body Language:
Nothing will make you stand out more than confident body language. Try:
- A solid handshake
- Hug
- Positive energy
- Good posture Strong eye contact
- A killer smile
2. Trigger Emotions:
Emotions attached to memories are so strong. Humans make decisions, especially moral decisions, primarily on emotions rather than logic. Some emotional triggers:
- Joy
- Hope
- Trust
- Surprise
- Self-Esteem
3. Be an Engaged Listener:
Don’t just hear, listen.
“People don’t always remember what you say or even what you do, but they always remember how you make them feel”.
– Maya Angelou
The first step in making someone feel special is to truly listen to them. Active listening has a strong aphrodisiac effect.
4. Don’t Underestimate the Smallest Acts:
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around”.
-Leo Buscaglia
5. Follow Up:
Follow up with them to see what they’ve been up to.
When we make an effort to respond to them with answers or simply to inquire about their big fishing weekend, it shows them that they are important to us.
6. Use their name:
“A person’s name is to him or her the sweetest and most important sound in any language”.
Dale Carnegie
People, as Dale Carnegie will tell you, love to hear the sound of their own name, so say it out loud, personalize your conversation with it, and associate it with something good that they have done.
7. Make Other Person Feel Important:
- Use their name.
- Express sincere gratitude.
- Do more listening than talking.
- Talk more about them than about you. Be authentically interested.
- Be sincere in your praise. Show you care.
